National School, University and Leisure Sport Federation (NSULF), an organisation of public utility has been established in 2017 by the amendment of the Act on Sport as an autonomous public body and which coordinates the operation of sports organisations in the fields of school, university sport and leisure sport. Although NSULF has been established recently, NSULF has become a key actor in Hungarian sport: it takes part in Erasmus Plus projects, and has become the responsible entity for the Hungarian cross-sectoral coordination mechanism for health-enhancing physical activity (HEPA). NSULF has three founding member organisations:
Hungarian School Sport Federation (HSSF) is the biggest civil organization in Hungarian youth sport education.
The Federation, founded in 1987 went through a major transformation in 2012, extending its mission beyond school sport: HSSF decided to support teachers to implement quality physical education, and to promote health development through regular physical education. The mission of the organisation is therefore significantly wider today than before: the main goal is to increase the number of children who are actively involved in physical activity programs and promote the concept of health-enhancing physical activity (HEPA).
The Hungarian Leisure Sport Association founded in 1989 is operating as public benefit organization. Its main goal is to raise the population’s body culture to a higher level, to promote physical activity and to raise publicity of healthy lifestyle. The association organizes sport for all events for all segments of the society. As a national umbrella organisation it has member organisations and regional representatives all over Hungary supporting its mission is to make people active and healthy.
The Hungarian University Sport Federation (HUSF) is the national umbrella organisation for university sports, representing 35 Hungarian higher-education institutions and its sport clubs. HUSF aims to promote HEPA activities for university students while of course supporting all the talented athletes at professional level.
