About The Speaker

Marjorie van der Windt-Veit

Marjorie van der Windt-Veit is a cultural, creative, and culinary facility manager with expertise in event production and programming in urban and public context. As off 2015 she is active as manager, facility co-ordinator and programmer for the Schouwburgplein square, right in the centre of the second largest Dutch city Rotterdam. In the past six years she has been occupied with the presentation of an accessible, free-of-entry quality outdoors programme for a broad audience on the square. In addition to our own free summer programming, we facilitate annual events such as International Film Festival Rotterdam and the Rotterdam Marathon and we take care of the square as a public space throughout the year. This vision did not remain unnoticed by Dutch HUNC Design/The Giant Flying Grass Carpet, which led to the installation of a cheerful artificial grass carpet on the Schouwburgplein square, demonstrating the benefits of a an attractively decorated public space where people can meet and simply enjoy themselves in the public realm. The Schouwburgplein team, in the form of an association (Vereniging Verenigd Schouwburgplein), works closely with the surrounding cultural institutions, business and residents' associations and the city council. It has developed into a public-private partnership between regional parties, public institutions, and knowledge market parties. Since 2006, thanks to our multifunctional approach and joint strategy, Schouwburgplein has grown into one of the largest performing arts squares in the Netherlands with more than 80 events per year and a total number of visitors of 171,530 in 2019, our last representative reference year before the Corona crisis struck.
