MOVE Congress 2015

Advocate. Innovate. Fundraise.

At the MOVE Congress 2015, which took place from 5-7 November, Copenhagen’s popular street sport facility, GAME, turned into arena for innovative practices that are driving the global grassroots sport movement forward. The event gathered 270 delegates from 41 countries to exchange best practices and discuss further cross-sector collaboration that can motivate more people to be physically active.

The MOVE Congress 2015 was organised in tracks under the following themes: Advocate. Innovate. Fundraise. Its 6 workshops and training sessions will cover related sub-topics:

ADVOCATE Inactivity Time Bomb: Using data as an advocacy tool

INNOVATE Reaching the hard-to-reach through effective initiatives and campaigns

INNOVATE Growing trends in physical activity

INNOVATE Leveraging mass events for sustainable physical activity participation

FUNDRAISE Increasing income from corporate, foundation and governmental donors

INNOVATE Visit the street! Behind-the-scenes of Copenhagen’s street sport hub

Grassroots sport is often considered as an affordable social integration tool that can be used by various social groups. The MOVE Congress delegates saw effective examples that have attracted women (including Sport England’s This Girl Can campaign), children, minorities and other socially disadvantaged groups to sport and physical activity offers.

The growth of outdoor sports and the popularity of running were featured as being among the top trends offering new opportunities for people to adopt more active routines. Creative mass events and sport initiatives were presented as attractive tools for sustainable sport participation.

Grassroots sport trends often rely on new approaches to facility construction and management. The Congress’ interactive on-site and off-site tours of Copenhagen facilities and urban planning showed how municipalities are working together with local sport organisations to integrate physical activity into citizens’ everyday environments.

The MOVE Congress was organised in partnership with DGI (Danish Gymnastics and Sports Associations), Sport Event Denmark, Copenhagen Municipality and the Danish Foundation for Culture and Sports Facilities (LOA Fonden).
